Apparently I have watched this movie before, but I’d never rated it on Netflix so I watched it again… which tells you that yes, it’s good enough for a rewatch!
This is the story of a grieving couple who, after losing their young son, move into a house in a strange community. The mother feels comforted by the presence she feels in the house, but when her neighbors visit, they tell a different story, one about how the house used to be a funeral home.
The people in town know exactly what’s up with the house – evil spirits who need to feed every 30 years or so. And they want to make sure the house feeds on the people currently living there.
There are a number of standout moments in this movie, most of them centered around the couple’s hippie friends, one of whom ends up possessed. Somehow this scene manages to be both chilling and funny at the same time (or maybe that’s just me?).
Recommendation time!
- The Amityville Horror (1979, 2013) – The ultimate haunted house movie! I’m a fan of both versions. Amityville Horror II is also decent, but most of the others in the franchise are not so great.
- The House of the Devil (2009) – This movie, about a baby-sitter lured in to become some kind of satanic sacrifice, has the look and feel an old 80s movie.
