Wednesday Writing Prompt #10

Wednesday Writing Prompt #10: Secret Library, Hidden Treasure

This Wednesday’s writing prompt is actually TWO prompts, a choose-your-own-adventure of sorts. Ready to embark on some world-building? Read on!

Prompt #1: Secret Library

You find a secret library! (my dream come true!!)  Make sure your story answers the following questions:

  • How did you find it?
  • Was there a door?  Was it locked?
  • What kind of books or materials are inside?
  • Is there something or someone guarding the secret library?
  • Do you take something from the library when you leave?
  • Are you able to leave?
  • Who else is looking for the secret library?

Maybe books aren’t your thing. So here’s an alternative:

Prompt #2: Hidden Treasure

You find a hidden treasure! Make sure your story answers the following questions:

  • How did you find it?
  • Was it locked up or protected?
  • What kind of treasure is it?
  • Is there something or someone guarding it?
  • What will you do with the treasure?
  • Who else wants the treasure?

These prompts will help you think about world-building as you write your story. Remember, the answer to some of these questions can be no! Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off on a quest to find a secret library…

Did you give this writing exercise a try? How did it go? Feel free to share a link to what you wrote in the comments!
