  • top 5 news stories

In writing news… Just got word today that my short story, “His Type of Girl,” was accepted for an anthology called I’ll Never Go Away, to be published in May 2012 by Rainstorm Press! I’ve also been working on a short story for another anthology.  I found this anthology listed on Ralan.com, a great site…

  • more sewing than writing…

As I suspected I spent more of my weekend sewing the valance curtains for my kitchen windows than I did writing.  I did some outlining though – does that count? I did, however, get down to the library on Saturday, where I found that the Nashua Public Library’s teen section had a large collection of Christopher…

  • query counter

Well, I’m settled into my new place now and I’ve finally become more motivated to write and to work on my New Year’s goal of submitting to 50 agents.  I think I will surpass even my 2010 extreme of 77 queries (although my goal that year was 100 rejections).  So I’m up to 30 queries…

  • New Year’s writing resolution

This year I am going to submit my work to at least 50 agents/publishers.  This is a better goal than my “get 100 rejections” goal from 2 years ago, because it does not depend on receiving an actual rejection – which many agents/publishers do not bother with.  Here’s hoping I’ll be published before the apocalypse!

  • i’m a winner!

Cabin Fever is not a complete draft yet, but I did cross the 50,000 word finish line.  Along the way, I realized that I wanted to write the novel in third person, and not from 3 different first person narrators.  However, I have a solid start and hopefully I’ll be able to keep the momentum…

  • so far, so good!

Day 5 and I’m about 500 words above par! For other Wrimos out there, I’ve been finding Amelia Atwater-Rhodes’s blog to have some good writing tips, and she recently recommended Adam Maxwell’s Fiction Lounge, which has a writing prompt generator should you get stuck or need inspiration for a few more words… Anyone interested can…

  • and so it begins…

It’s November 2nd, which means Nanowrimo has started again!  Yesterday I managed over 1,900 words and my goal for tonight is to get to 3,500 before American Horror Story comes on. My novel this November is called “Cabin Fever.”  Up until about Oct. 25th I had no idea what I was going to write about, so I went over…

  • back to the beginning

Recently I’ve been doing a lot of editing as a Goodreads librarian.  I started by adding book covers to all the novels on my shelves that were missing covers, which led me to find some of the missing covers to my favorite middle school series like Sleepover Friends on the blog Cliquey Pizza.  Looking through…

  • inspiration!

Recently I read the novel Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs, which is just such a cool book that I’ve been telling everyone about it.  Basically, the author took a bunch of weird old photographs and wrote a story around them.  He certainly had some really, really weird photos, from people who…

  • long time no write

I’ve been under the radar recently… not doing much writing (unless you count working on character family trees?).  Since Hitchhikers didn’t make it through to the next round, I sent it out to several agents and a) got 2 rejections ON MY BIRTHDAY and b) had 2 agents request the manuscript on the day after…
