December 2018 reading round-up

December 2018 reading round-up

  • # of books read: 11
  • total books read in 2018: 161
  • pages read:  2,888 pages
  • total pages read in 2018: 42,412 pages

I didn’t get a lot of reading done in December, but I sure read a lot of pages! This is all because I finally got my hands on Kingdom of Ash, and because Queen of Air and Darkness came out (just finished QoAaD, so none of those 800+ pages count for this month).

I’ll just start of with Kingdom of Ash. It was pretty much everything I could have hoped for in a conclusion for this series. I read it pretty quickly, in less than two weeks, which is about my standard for a really good book that is close to 1,000 pages long. There were some things that could have been better (I mean, did it really have to be so long?) but overall I gave it 4 stars.

One of my favorite books this month was Autoboyography. I loved this book. When I told my teen book club about it, one girl even demanded it so she could check it out. It’s weird that I gave both this book 5 stars so soon after giving another book 5 stars, but I guess that’s the kind of mood I was in this month!

The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding was another surprise hit with me this month. I wasn’t sure about it being middle grade, and it was so different from the Darkest Minds series – but I actually liked it more! The copy I read was an autographed one from BEA, and it’s actually a really pretty cover in person.

I listened to three audiobooks this month. By far my favorite was Calypso by David Sedaris. I love all his books, they’re great in audio when he reads them.

One of my goals in November and December was to read more of my OwlCrate books (or really, just the books at home that I haven’t read yet). Ace of Shades was one high on my list. It took me a long time to really get into the story, and it wasn’t quite what I thought it would be. It’s hard when a book gets compared to something as amazing as Six of Crows, it’s almost certain to be a letdown. But it was a decent read.

Overall it was a good reading year! I read quite a few books on my TBR and added even more… it’s a neverending struggle.

Sadly, I have to inform you that I will not being continuing my monthly reading round-up. WordPress has a bug that won’t allow me to post directly from Instagram in a blog post, and I’d like to feature more themed book lists and writing-related posts. For a while, I needed these round-ups to keep my blogging on track, but hopefully my new resolutions will do that for me! (If the reading round-ups are something you will sorely miss, please let me know in the comments!)
